1. Overview
This Cookie Policy explains the small number of browser storage technologies used by https://www.socratopia.ca (the “Service”), operated by Herais International. It forms part of our Terms and Conditions and should be read together with our Privacy Policy.
In short: Socratopia uses exactly one cookie, and it is strictly necessary to keep you signed in. We use no advertising cookies, no third-party trackers and no cross-site profiling.
2. What cookies are
Cookies are small text files that a website stores in your browser to remember state between requests. “Essential” or “strictly necessary” cookies are those without which a requested feature - such as staying signed in - cannot function. Other categories (preferences, statistics, marketing) are not used on this Service.
3. The cookies we use
| Cookie | Purpose | Type | Lifetime |
|---|---|---|---|
| soc_session | Keeps you signed in to your account | Essential (HTTP-only, same-site) | 30 days, or until you sign out |
The session cookie is HTTP-only and marked secure in production, so it cannot be read by scripts and is never sent over plain HTTP. Its value is an opaque random token; your password never touches a cookie. Because it is strictly necessary for the signed-in features you request, it is set without a consent prompt; no non-essential cookies exist to consent to.
4. Browser local storage (not cookies)
A few conveniences are stored in your browser’s local storage on this device only - for example your place in the interactive reader and, for signed-out visitors, the temporary chat history of the AI assistant. This data never leaves your browser, is not transmitted to us, is not used to track you across sites, and disappears when you clear your browser data.
5. What we do not use
- no advertising or retargeting cookies;
- no third-party analytics or tracking scripts;
- no social-media tracking pixels;
- no fingerprinting or cross-site identifiers.
Embedded media players loaded through the Service may be governed by their provider’s own cookie practices when they run; we do not place trackers on their behalf.
6. Controlling cookies
Your browser lets you view, block or delete cookies at any time, usually under its privacy or site-settings menu. Blocking the essential cookie simply means you will stay signed out; the public catalogue and the signed-out AI chat remain fully usable. Deleting browser data also clears the local-storage conveniences described above.
7. Changes and contact
If our use of storage technologies changes, this Policy will be updated and the revised version published on this page. Questions can be sent through the contact form, or see the Privacy Policy for the fuller picture of how personal information is handled.
